Phil Laak’s success is in the poker cards
Chances are that you’ve heard of Phil Laak, even if you’re not a poker groupie.
Known as “The Unibomber,” Laak is instantly recognizable for his signature look, a hooded sweatshirt and mirrored sunglasses. Plus, he’s one of the more animated and fun players to hit the circuit.
Today, Laak will be meeting up with fans during a public event, then playing in the Laak’em In No Limit Texas Hold’em tournament at Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio.
Kentucky Derby Poker Championship Starts Saturday
Trade the green in your mint julep for the green of the felt with the innaugural Kentucky Derby Poker Championship. The event, to be held Saturday, May 3rd at Caesars Indiana, will be hosted by Phil Hellmuth and Robert Williamson III. Both players will try their hands at the tournament, with Hellmuth pulling double duty, as he will be serving as the emcee.
Latin American Poker Tour kicks off in Rio de Janeiro
The Latin American Poker Tour (LAPT) kicks off today in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro, making it a pretty ideal location for anything, much less a poker tournament.
The LAPT Rio will take place at the Intercontinental Hotel at 1pm tomorrow local time. Pros expected to show their faces include Costa Rican poker pro Humberto Brenes, Gavin Griffin, Chris Moneymaker, Greg Raymer, Victor Ramdin, Isabelle Mercier, Chad Brown and Vanessa Rousso.

Celebrities will include, Willie Garson (Sex and the City), Anne Heche (Men in Trees), Josh Malina (West Wing), James Tupper (Men in Trees), Kevin Weisman (Alias), Ralph Garmon (actor and host of KROQ Kevin and Bean Morning Show) and Joel Murray (Still Standing), who will be the Auctioneer for the Live Auction. Proceeds will benefit CureDuchenne in their efforts to fund promising research that could save THIS generation of boys suffering from Duchenne muscular Dystrophy.
Lee’s poker show celebrates one year on air
Poker pro Bernard Lee will celebrate the one-year anniversary of his poker radio show in Massachusetts this month with the help of special guests starting May 6.
The Bernard Lee Poker Show plays on 1510 AM The Zone in Massachusetts and will also premier on Rounders Radio this month, the largest streaming poker radio station in the world.
